Liquiter valuta il potenziale di liquefazione durante i terremoti mediante i seguenti criteri di previsione e metodi:

CRITERI EMPIRICI
I criteri empirici si basano per lo più su parametri desunti da prove di identificazione o da prove penetrometriche standard, o anche su alcune caratteristiche geologiche qualitative; generalmente si limitano a valutare la suscettibilità dei depositi indipendentemente dall'entità della scossa sismica al sito.
I criteri di previsione del potenziale di liquefazione adottati dal programma sono soltanto alcuni fra i più noti, e sono:
1) Criterio della normativa cinese (Chinese Building Code, 1974);
2) Criterio proposto da Durville et al. (1985) per la normativa francese;
3) Criterio modificato di Youd e Perkins (1978);
4) Criteri che tengono conto della magnitudo (Kuribayashi e Tatsuoka, 1975; Berardi et al., 1988);
METODI SEMPLIFICATI
I metodi semplificati si basano sul rapporto che intercorre fra le sollecitazioni di taglio (Cyclic Resistance Ratio) che producono liquefazione e quelle indotte dal terremoto (Cyclic Stress Ratio); hanno bisogno di valutare i parametri relativi sia all'evento sismico sia al deposito, questi ultimi sono determinati privilegiando metodi basati su correlazioni della resistenza alla liquefazione con parametri desunti da prove in situ.
I parametri utilizzati da Liquiter sono: il numero dei colpi nella prova SPT, la resistenza alla punta nelle prove statiche CPT e misure delle onde di taglio Vs nelle prove sismiche.
I metodi di calcolo del potenziale di liquefazione adottati dal programma sono:
1) Metodo di Seed e Idriss (1982);
2) Metodo di Iwasaki et al. (1978; 1984);
3) Metodo di Tokimatsu e Yoshimi (1983);
4) Metodo di Finn (1985);
5) Metodo di Cortè (1985);
6) Metodo di Robertson e Wride (1997);
7) Metodo di Andrus e Stokoe (1998);
8) Metodi basati sull'Eurocodice 8 (ENV 1998-5);
9) Metodo basato sull'OPCM N. 3472 (2003).
